The written word has always been very important to me.  As a lifelong extreme introvert who has never been comfortable in my own ability to communicate verbally in any landscape, I have always relied on writing to express myself comfortably and coherently.  It is something that I have worked on throughout my life for effective use on a day-to-day basis, it gives me a forum through which I can share my thoughts and feelings without fear of judgemental eyes staring a hole through me, and it allows me to fearlessly express my creativity, especially far from the limelight of public humiliation.  Speaking of creativity, I have been writing creatively since I was in elementary school, and throughout the years my efforts have included short stories, comedic tales, song lyrics, poems, short novels, and (attempted) long novels.  It has always been with great trepidation that I have shared any of my writing with anyone – only a precious few throughout my five hundred and thirty-seven years on this planet have seen any of my writing, so this is a huge leap for me to post some of my pieces for public scrutiny.  Recently, I began putting together a three-volume collection of some of my favourite song lyrics and poems, and a few of those selections are about to be shared with you (or forced upon you, however, you want to see it).  I thank my dear friend Sana for this opportunity, and for her ongoing support, her encouragement, and her routine kicking of my derriere.  It is my hope that you enjoy what you read. Thank you for taking the time to look at what I have to offer.

Sana and I agreed that given recent events, this had to be the first set of my lyrics to be posted.

OUR DAY WILL COME

We were born the same in our makers’ eyes

But truths of inner light have all become lies

Now the gold is gold and the slums are slums

Blind faith in the human race

Lost in the wind, self-worth erased

We’re told of reasons why the night has no shining sun

We all were promised equality

But only as far as blind eyes see

Unchanged labels have us overrun

In this vicious circle, this war of words

Above all the noise, one voice shall be heard

We’ll hear the voice of reason

Our day will come

The world is made up of many shades

And outer beauty is just a masquerade

But sometimes the world is only seen in black and white

Every day we hear it said,

“Our peace will come when they’re all dead.

Change the scenes and this world will be right.”

So many minds closed and backs turned

The same questions are answered, still, nothing is learned

“Why must they be the different ones?”

A hole inside consumes our hearts

There’s no logic why we’re set apart

We fear what this will become

Our day will come

The sun still shines, the moon is still bright

We live through the days and sleep through the nights

There are still many colours in the seasons

When we join hands and our worlds unite

And when we have the gift of open sight

Judgments will come undone

Our day will come
