The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

Summary

If you haven’t already noticed - I like reading non-fiction. It’s very rare that I read fiction but Oscar Wilde is an exception. I absolutely love reading his works - his plays and have also grown to love this book which I’ve read twice and am planning to read it once more. I think I can say it’s one of my favourite books Why? Because I like Wilde’s writing style and the world he so beautifully paints that is both engaging and alluring. The characters are rich in personality and wit as is their analysis through the eyes of the author/the main characters. If that wasn’t already enough to draw you in, there is more to the book in terms of the themes and concepts that it touches and explores. Themes such as youth, vanity, time and art, influence and corruption, homosexuality, and more. Someone has already done a terrific job of exploring these so if you like to read more, click here to view Carter, Jon. Berkow, Jordan ed. "The Picture of Dorian Gray Themes". I would recommend this book to

  • If you appreciate art and aesthetics as much as the main characters of the book and myself do - vanity is a key theme here

  • You want to explore the other aforementioned themes
