Spicy Onion Tuna
Think of this dish as pulled chicken style. Some people can’t tell the difference, so if you’re looking to eat fish without the “fishy” taste (the kind you don’t like because fish tastes great), this is a great dish. You can reduce the spice, add more or less onions. Experiment and see what suits you and your family’s needs.
Ingredients:
4 cans chunk or solid tuna in olive oil or water
2 tbsp olive oil
1 large red onion
1/4 cup tomato paste (or you can use 2 tbsp ketchup if you don’t have any in the house)
1 tomato
1 bell pepper - you can use shishito peppers, or any hot chilli peppers in lieu of bell peppers
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp fennel or cumin seeds
Method:
Heat oil in pan
Add all the tuna along with the spices and cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes
Add 1/4 cup water if tuna starts to stick to the bottom of the pan
Add in tomato and tomato paste and cook for another 5-6 minutes
Add peppers and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes
Serve with roti, naan, bread, rice…or just have it as is with salad
