Easy Slow Cooker Beans (no soaking required)

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dried black eyed pease washed and drained (not from a can)

  • 1 cup dried lentils washed and drained (not from a can)

  • 2/3 cups dried quinoa

  • 8 cups water

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp crushed garlic

  • 1 tbs crushed ginger

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste or ketchup

  • 2 vegetable bouillon cubes

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 to 1 (to taste) tsp red chili powder

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 1 tsp ground oregano

  • 1 1/4 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1 tsp achaar spice mix (whole spices)

  • 1/2 or 1 cup fried onions

  • Solution: 4 tbsp cornstarch with 4 tbsp water mixed

 
 

Method:

  1. Wash the beans and drain in a colander

  2. Put all the ingredients in a crockpot/slow cooker

  3. Cook on High for 12 hours

  4. When 4 hours are remaining, add the corn starch solution to thicken the mixture
