Apple Crisp

Ingredients:

Fruit

  • 12 sliced apples

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 - 2 tsp cinnamon

Topping

  • 2 cups flour (Gluten-free, or use a mixture of flax, almond meal for a healthier, nuttier alternative)

  • 1.5 cups brown sugar

  • 2 cups oats

  • 1.5 cups butter softened

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F

  2. Prepare fruit by combining it with sugar and cinnamon and place in a large cooking dish

  3. Prepare topping by mixing all ingredients together in a bowl. You can use a beater to mix or use your hands for a good ole fashioned movement of your limbs

  4. Sprinkle topping over apple mixture

  5. Bake until topping is crisp and golden brown. This may depend on your oven but it takes about 40 minutes for me.

  6. Revel in apple land

“Hungry for apples?!" - Jerry Morty - Rick and Morty

If that line gets you in the mood, then this recipe is for you. Above is a rough measure of how I make my apple crisp. I put less sugar than what’s above and more butter and sometimes even more oats, depending on my mood - sometimes buttery and sometimes oaty. I also use a very large pyrex container so feel free to cut the recipe in half if you have a square 8 by 8 container.

Remember - less sugar is better.

Apple picking has become a tradition of mine and each time I try to find something new and old to do. Sometimes I bake apple crisp, and save the rest of the apples for snacking. Other times, I make apple cake. I also make apple chutney and you can find the recipe on the blog or by clicking here.
